Medicare International
Travel Insurance
Protection for Canadians travelling outside of their province of residence.
21st Century's Medicare International Travel Insurance is for Canadian residents with provincial healthcare travelling outside of their province of residence or outside of Canada. Provincial health insurance covers only a small portion of the cost of a medical emergency while you are travelling. For example, a 5-day hospital stay in Florida can result in charges of $50,000 or more. Your provincial plan would likely reimburse less than $5,000, leaving you with a bill for more than $45,000!
You can choose between Emergency Medical, All-Inclusive or Stand-alone Trip Cancellation. Single trip and Multi-Trip plans are available.
These travel insurance plans, provide emergency medical coverage worldwide, including countries where a Schengen Visa is required. A Schengen Visa is a short-stay visa that allows you to travel between any of the participating countries where common entry requirements have eliminated the need for most internal border controls, allowing free and unrestricted movement of people. When applying for a Schengen Visa, you are required to show that you have travel medical insurance that meets the requirements as listed by the European Commission. Applying for a Schengen visa - European Commission (europa.eu). Purchasing travel insurance, does not guarantee you will be granted a Schengen Visa.
Please note that the product offered through Travel Agents is slightly different than the one described below which is sold by insurance brokers and advisors. Contact your Travel Agent for details.
